Admissions Frequently Asked Questions

How can I register my child?

You will complete an Application For Enrollment. Please visit Registration for more information.

What are your hours of operation?

Monday thru Friday, 5:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

What are the tuition rates?

There is a yearly registration fee. Please visit Rates for our current tuition rates. Rates are reviewed annually by our Board of Directors.

Does the Center close for any holidays during the year?

Yes, The Center is closed to celebrate the following holidays: Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve, and New Years Day. (July 4th, Christmas, and New Year’s holidays vary depending on the day the holiday falls on). There is no charge when the Center is closed.

Does the Center close in the case of inclement weather?

Only in extreme weather conditions will the Center close. We must keep the safety of staff and children in mind when making the decision to close. If the weather takes a turn for the worse and the Center needs to close mid-day, this will be announced on local radio and television stations. Parents will be notified to let them know that their child will need to be picked up. If the Center needs to be closed for the entire day, radio and TV stations will be contacted. Keep in mind that this is only in the event of extremely dangerous conditions. There is no charge if the Center is closed for the entire day.

How fast is the enrollment process…from the time the application is filled out to orientation to starting day?

The Steps to Enrollment can go quickly. The child may start attending the Center after the family completes the necessary paperwork and meets with the Program Director for an orientation. Please visit Registration for a complete list of the Steps to Enrollment.

Does your center accept families that receive Wisconsin Shares?

Yes, all families are welcome at Black River Child Care Center.

Can my child attend one day per week?

All schedules are contracted. Families may contract for one to five days per week, depending on their needs, but are required to have set days scheduled.

What if my child does not attend on his/her scheduled day?

It is the parent’s responsibility to call the Center each morning that your child will not be attending on his/her scheduled day. You may switch to another day within that week if space is available.

Do I have to pay if my child is sick or we go on vacation?

Yes, each family contracts for their needed days at the time of enrolment. The tuition bill is then the same every week regardless of whether the child attends or not. The exception to this is when the Center is closed; families are not charged tuition when the Center is closed.

Will I receive a weekly bill for child care services?

If your child has a set schedule, your tuition will remain the same each week and you will not receive a weekly statement. If you are on Wisconsin Shares, your co-payment will vary; in this case you will receive a statement.

Can I pay for my day care bill by credit card?

No, the center does not accept credit card payments. Payments can be made by check, money order or cash.

When are tuition payments due?

Payment is due on Monday for services rendered each week.

What if my payment is late?

A $10 late fee will be charged if payment is not received by Monday. Tuition must be paid within one week. Care will not be provided the second week unless a payment accompanies the child on the next day of attendance, or arrangements are made with the Business Administrator.

What if I withdraw my child?

A two week written notice is required for withdrawal. Full tuition will be charged until two weeks written notice is given. Failure to give two weeks’ written notice results in a drop-out fee equivalent to two weeks’ scheduled tuition.

Do you have drop in care?

Black River Child Care Center does offer drop in care. Please visit Services for a complete list of the services provided and check out the drop in care link for more detailed information.

My child has an allergy, what will you do to accommodate his/her needs?

Children with allergies are welcome at our Center. Depending on the specific allergy, extra forms may need to be filled out by medical professionals. All food allergies will be accommodated with meal provisions.

What is an IEP?

IEP, stands for Individualized Education Plan. Children who have received special services from school districts may have one. If your child has an IEP please include a copy with the Application for Enrollment.

My child has a medical condition, what will you do to accommodate his/her needs?

Black River Child Care Center welcomes all children into our center. We will accommodate all special needs to the best of our ability. If your child has an IEP please provide the Center with a copy so that we can work on meeting your child’s goals.

What does my child bring for his/her first day?

Included in your child’s enrolment packet will be a welcome letter from your child’s classroom teacher. This letter will include a class supply list. Every child in the Center will need a mailbox (12 qt. Plastic container), extra change of clothes, a blanket if wanted, and diapers/wipes if not yet potty trained.

What should my child wear?

Have your child wear comfortable play clothes. Dress for the weather; including boots, snow pants, mittens, and a hat in the winter. Please label all outer wear. Tennis shoes must be worn in order for children to be able to play on any outdoor equipment. Flip-flops are not allowed.
